We added “no phone frame, no status bar” after the first try: the model decided it was drawing a screenshot and added a camera notch plus Wi-Fi and battery icons. On a wallpaper, that fake “interface” would duplicate the real one.

## Desktop wallpapers: 16:9 and 21:9

For a monitor the rule flips: icons usually sit on the left, so it's better to shift the main subject to the right or keep the center calm.

## Live wallpapers: how to animate an image

A live wallpaper is a short looping clip instead of a still image. We sent the anime wallpaper to [Veo 3.1](/models/veo-3-1) and asked for barely noticeable motion with no camera movement.

The key words in a live wallpaper prompt are “static camera” and “subtle motion.” Sharp movement on a lock screen is tiring and drains the battery faster. ## Composition rules for wallpapers

- **Phone: keep the upper third as sky or a plain background.** That's where the clock and notifications go.
- **Phone: no small details at the bottom.** That's where the app dock sits.
- **Monitor: keep the center or left side calm.** That's where icons and windows go.
- **Dark wallpapers for dark mode.** They also save battery on OLED screens.
- **No text or logos.** Text on a wallpaper gets old fast and clashes with the interface.

## Limitations

- **Interface in the image.** The model may add a status bar or a phone frame — forbid it directly in the prompt.
- **Pseudo-letters on signs.** On neon signs the model draws letter-like glyphs — ask for “simple shapes and no letters.”
- **Looping live wallpapers.** The clip is 8 seconds long and doesn't always loop perfectly; pick subjects with smooth motion — rain, lights, steam.
